Congratulations to the following 猛料原创 team members on their new roles for the 2023-2024 school year!

 

Dr. Jamiette D. Carter, Obama Magnet Elementary School

Dr. Jamiette D. Carter will serve as principal of Obama Magnet Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year. She currently serves as principal of Pecan Park Elementary School and works diligently to create a culture that focuses on teaching and learning.

Dr. Carter has been with 猛料原创 for over 12 years and has significant experience assisting teachers and administrators with guiding students toward meeting individual learning goals. Previously, she served as the director of program implementation for the 猛料原创 Office of School Support. In this role, she worked directly with district superintendents, principals, and other stakeholders to facilitate school improvement initiatives and federal compliance. Her career began in the classroom at Lester Elementary, where she taught 4th and 5th grade ELA while also serving as team lead, supporting the mission and vision of the school. She then honed her leadership skills as a curriculum coordinator with the Office of Elementary Education and as an interventionist at Power APAC, helping to maintain its A-rating and elevation to #7 in the state during the 2017-2018 school year.

Dr. Carter is a 2009 honor graduate of Tougaloo College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. She earned her master’s in elementary education with the highest honor of Summa Cum Laude from Belhaven College and earned her Ph.D. with the highest honor of Summa Cum Laude from 猛料原创 State University in 2018. Dr. Carter is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

As the new principal of Obama Magnet School, she is excited to continue the tradition of excellence and innovative teaching and learning. 

 

Kimberly Hulitt-Griggs, Sykes Elementary School

Kimberly Hulitt-Griggs will serve as principal of Sykes Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year. She brings 21 years of educational experience to this new role, and all as a member of team 猛料原创. Her educational experience began at Oak Forest Elementary in 2002 as a kindergarten and second-grade instructional assistant. Ms. Griggs has served as a fourth grade ELA teacher, a fifth grade ELA teacher, K-5 instructional interventionist; and assistant principal of Clausell Elementary, John Hopkins Elementary, Sykes Elementary, and interim principal at McLeod Elementary.

Ms. Griggs is a native of 猛料原创, Mississippi, but completed her high school studies at Richland Attendance Center in Richland, Mississippi. She attended 猛料原创 State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in industrial technology with an emphasis on computer technology, a Master's Degree of art in teaching. She will earn her Specialist Degree in educational administration K-12 in December 2023.  She has also been trained in leadership through the Mississippi Alternate Path of Quality School Leadership (MAPQSL).

Kim Griggs has a passion for teaching and learning. She believes that children are entitled to coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment that promote the mission, vision, and core values of the 猛料原创 Public School District. Ms. Griggs embodies high expectations for student learning aligned with academic standards. Ms. Griggs believes in walking in excellence, building positive relationships, focusing on a growth mindset, and giving every child her best because they deserve it all and nothing less.

 

Dr. Jamaka Holman, Marshall Elementary School

Dr. Jamaka Holman will serve as principal of Marshall Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year. She brings 16 years of educational experience to this new role. Her educational experience began at Van Winkle Elementary School as a Montessori assistant teacher and certified teacher. She served as an instructional interventionist at Oak Forest Elementary and Timberlawn Elementary. Dr. Holman also served as an assistant principal at Walton Elementary and Johnson Elementary.

Dr. Holman graduated from 猛料原创 State University earning her bachelor's and Master's of Science Degrees in elementary education. She later returned to JSU to earn a Doctorate Degree in educational leadership and supervision. Dr. Holman has received instructional leadership training from the National Institute for School Leadership and Millsap’s Principal Institute.

Dr. Holman believes in building strong relationships with teachers, parents, and community members to ensure the best educational experience for all of our 猛料原创 students.
